San Vittore – Pala Tower

The tower sits on a rocky massif, above the neighborhood of Pala. It was probably built towards the end of the 13th Century and extended during the following century. A six story rectangular construction with roof merlons (battlements), it formed a portion of a fortified living complex, of which there remain few ruins on an adjacent rocky massif. The residence of a branch of the von Sax family, feudal lords of the valley, or of their administrators, it was abandoned during the 15th Century. Originally comprising four stories, the tower was later enlarged with a fifth vaulted story as well as a defensive platform on the sixth level.
